A BA is a professional who acts as a liaison between the business group (or end users) of a software application and the technical group that designs, develops and does testing on the application.

What qualifications do I need to be a Business Analyst?2023-10-06T20:07:35+00:00

You just need to have good communication skills. Sync IT Learning (SIL) provides all the technical details that one needs to be a business analyst. A business analyst’s job is to gather requirements of the software product by conducting interviews, conducting user focus groups, writing project charters, process flow diagrams, etc. So, if you are a generally smart person who enjoys communicating with people and are ready to embrace IT as your career, you are the right person for BA skills. Sync IT Learning provides all the technical training that you would need to be a successful Business Analyst. So, if you have leadership skills in you, you will be an excellent BA. You just need a coach who will teach you all the buzz words and educate you on basic BA principles.

Do you need to know programming to be a BA?2023-10-06T20:07:16+00:00

No

Is there a demand for BAs?2023-10-06T20:07:00+00:00

There is a tremendous demand for BAs. Login to dice, monster, etc. and do a search for Business Analyst and/or Systems Analyst and you will see lots of open positions. We get to the tune of 10 BA requirements a day.

If I take this course, can I call myself a Certified Business Analyst?2023-10-06T20:06:39+00:00

Well, you can call yourself a Certified Business Analyst by Alok Bhatia (the instructor). But if you are looking for a mainstream certification like PBA (Professional Business Analyst) from PMI (Project Management Institute) or CBAP (Certified Business Analyst Professional) from IBA (International Institute of Business Analyst) then this course will only help you prepare for that certificate. If you want to take a PBA or a CBAP certificate you will have to apply with PMI and IIBA respectively. This course will tremendously help you in passing the exam but in addition to this course you will have to take other courses from various institutes who offer PBA and CBAP certification. If you want Sync IT Learning to teach you PBA or IIBA material, the course fee is $1000.

What career path can I expect once I become a BA?2023-10-06T20:06:21+00:00

Generally, Business Analysts become Software Project Managers after a few years on the job. You could take PMP certification (Project Management Professional) and then become a Program Manager. It is the fastest way into management and into six figures job within 2-3 years of taking Sync IT Learning training. A lot of concepts covered in Sync IT Learning’s BA class actually prepare you to be a Project Manager for software development groups where you manage the work of software engineers, Database administrators, Quality Assurance Engineers etc. Remember, the job of a Project Manager or a Business Analyst is not to do the work but to get the job done. If you want to move into other fields like management consulting, strategic consulting, Business Process Reengineering, etc. all these are very easy options to move into. After being a PM, you can also become an Account Manager for companies like HCL, Wipro, Infosys. Titles you can hope to have say in 5 years:

1) Product Manager
2) Senior Product Manager
3) Director of Project Management Office
4) QA Manager
5) Senior Business Analyst
6) Program Manager
7) Senior Project Manager
8) Sales Account Executive

How extensively is UML covered in the BA class?2023-10-06T20:05:46+00:00

If you are already familiar with UML (Unified Modeling Language) you will perhaps need a more targeted course to take your knowledge to the next level. We cannot afford to go too deep into any one topic as we cover a lot in 2 weeks. You learn enough and then you keep learning and growing from there. To give you an idea, we cover UML for 2 hours.

Is there a fee for the course?2023-10-06T20:05:28+00:00

Yes, $199 fee. You can audit 3 classes but after that, you will have to pay the fees.

Who can I contact for more information?2023-10-06T20:05:13+00:00

This FAQ should answer most of your questions. But, if you still have more questions or want to sign up, please contact your salesperson who sent you this FAQ or call the main number 510-779-9040. You can also email info@syncitlearning.com

Will I get software from you like MS Visio, etc. installed on my own machines so I can practice at home?2023-10-06T20:04:36+00:00

No. You can download trial versions of software on your home machines and play with them for a limited time.

Is there a contract?2023-10-06T20:04:21+00:00

No, Sync IT Learning is not a staffing agency. It is an IT certifications and education company! Contracts are typically presented with companies who expect you to work with them for a certain period of time.

Does Sync IT Learning also process H-1 visas for their candidates?2023-10-06T20:04:03+00:00

No

Can you give me references of some of your past candidates?2023-10-06T20:03:49+00:00

Yes, absolutely. We can give you references from all kinds of candidates – for all of the certifications we provide. Please ask your salesperson for details.

Do you give placement assistance?2023-10-06T20:03:33+00:00

No.

Do you help us with internships?2023-10-06T20:03:17+00:00

For freshers, our BAbAB training will help them ignite their career with BA QA internships/entry level jobs! However, for further career paths, we recommend you to many consulting companies. We will try to arrange internships for you with local companies. Keep in mind these internships are typically pro-bono (that is, they don’t pay you) but you do learn a lot on the job. Please keep in mind that there is no guarantee that we will always be able to arrange an internship for everyone in the BAbAB batch. Some of our best candidates who are in the top 10% of the batch, may be able to secure some internships with our clients.

Do these internships turn into full time job offers?2023-10-06T20:02:58+00:00

Yes, sometimes. But there is no guarantee. It depends on the client’s situation and how well you worked with them.

What happens after training?2023-10-06T20:02:40+00:00

We will try to get you an internship with our clients, or you can go and work with many placement agencies in the bay area. We can introduce you to them.

Do you only offer training in San Francisco Bay Area?2023-10-06T20:02:16+00:00

Yes, presently, we only offer training in San Francisco Bay Area, in Fremont, CA at 4580 Auto Mall Parkway Ste 121, Fremont, CA 94538. However, 90% of our candidates are not from the Bay Area. So, even though we teach in person in the Bay Area, 90% of candidates are not from the Bay Area. You are welcome to attend our training courses virtually. We have a sophisticated Zoom & Webex set up where you can hear the instructor, see his desktop, see his face and it is pretty much like being in-person. It is as close as you can get to the training without physically being here.

How many mock interviews do you conduct?2023-10-06T20:01:58+00:00

We don’t conduct mock interviews. Mock interviews are typically for placement companies.

Do you provide any certificate after I complete this training BAbAB?2023-10-06T20:01:39+00:00

Yes, we provide attendance certificate after completion of 20 hours of training along with a grade.

I want training now, but Sync IT Learning’s training starts in X weeks. I don’t want to wait until then. Can you tell me what to do?2023-10-06T20:01:20+00:00

We recommend that you start the training in the current batch. Start attending the current batch even if the current batch started more than X days ago. Why? Because a lot of topics in QA and BA and PM training are not related to each other. So, you will gain tremendous knowledge regardless of when you join the batch. Yes, at times, you will be a bit lost but with the help of classmates, your own self-study with the course material that Sync IT Learning provides, you would be in pretty good shape. And, the best thing is, you can start the next batch from Day 1 (for no new charge of course). So, take the first batch you attended as your bonus training.

The point is, “The more you hear the instructor on any topic and take notes and understand the material, the more knowledgeable you will be”.

What tools do BA/PMs use on the job?2023-10-06T20:00:54+00:00

Most likely tools:
Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Rational Rose

Probable tools/technologies:
Perhaps SQL (using SQL Client like TOAD) Macromedia Dreamweaver
SnagIt

Less likely:
Rational Requisite Pro Mercury Quality Center XML Spy

What books will I need to purchase (Or what do I need to bring to class)?2023-10-06T20:00:16+00:00

You don’t need to purchase any books. Just bring a notepad and pencil (Pen is not recommended since there would be lots of discussions/changes in notes/diagrams to be drawn). Both for BA and QA, we offer you all the material you need.

Would you recommend taking training online or in person?2023-10-06T19:59:43+00:00

We recommend taking training in person. Unless you are not local. If you are not local, you can take training online. It is about 80% as effective as taking classes in person. Try to be alert. Ask the instructor questions along the way just as if you were there in person. If you are local, do make every effort to come in person.

If I am attending classes in person and every now and then I need to take a class from home, is it OK?2023-10-06T19:59:19+00:00

Yes. It is OK. Not recommended, but it is OK. Taking classes from the classroom is a lot more beneficial to you than taking classes over Zoom. This also means that if you cannot make it to my class in person for the first few days of a new batch beginning, you should try your best to take these classes from home using a phone line and through Zoom or Webex.

But, if I miss a class, can you spend time with me?2023-10-06T19:59:02+00:00

No. But you will get class recording. Every class is recorded.

Do you provide accommodation?2023-10-06T19:58:45+00:00

No

Do you provide any refund or money back guarantee?2023-10-06T19:58:28+00:00

Yes, if you don’t like the class, you can cancel your enrollment in the class up to 72 hours after class begins. That is, you can get all your money back if you don’t like the class after attending it for three days. Beyond 3 days, of course, there will be no refund but by that time, you would know if BA is the right field for you and Alok Bhatia is the right instructor for you.

Do you provide any trial classes?2023-10-06T19:57:48+00:00

Yes, you can attend the first three classes of batch on a trial basis, but you need to pay for further classes.

What is the background of instructor?2023-10-06T19:57:32+00:00

Alok Bhatia came to USA in December 1992 after graduating as a Chemical Engineer (1988-1992) from IIT-BHU (Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi). In the spring of 1993, Alok joined as a Masters candidate in the Industrial Engineering program at West Virginia University (WVU), Morgantown, WV, USA. Soon after, Alok realized that with a MS in Industrial Engineering, there will be problems in getting H1. So, in Fall 1993, Alok jumped to the Masters Program in Computer Science in WVU. He graduated in June 1996 (It took Alok 3 years to finish MS in Computer Science because of 11 pre-requisites that Alok had to do before moving on to Computer Science). In July 2006, Alok joined Synopsys Inc. in Mountain View, CA as a Programmer Analyst working on Perl/CGI and JavaScript packages. In 1998, Alok joined Ernst and Young (Big 5 consulting firm) as a Management Trainee. In 2000, Alok joined Excite.com (a onetime big portal, just like Yahoo is today) as a Software Engineer. In 2003, Alok joined Epinions.com, had a brief stint in Inktomi Corporation and Quovadx corporation and then jumped to Wells Fargo Bank as a Software Engineer. Finally, in 2004, Alok got his break as a Business Analyst and then as a Project Manager in Wells Fargo Bank. In 2006, Alok started his IT certifications business.

What kind of impact does outsourcing have on BA jobs? 4 or 5 years down the line, I will not have much scope left in USA?2023-10-06T19:57:07+00:00

Alok does not think that BA is as impacted by outsourcing as QA and development. Because BAs need to be local to the end users, to the business team and in fact, BAs will play an even more critical role because of the geographical separation of various technical teams.

If I want to take the training again after having taken it once, can I?2023-10-06T19:56:50+00:00

Yes, you are very welcome to take the training again at no cost. In fact, I recommend it for some people who take longer to absorb new topics. You can take BAbAB training again and again and again at no added cost.

Since there are three days auditing period where candidate audit the class and see if they like it, Will the candidate get the material for those three days?2023-10-06T19:56:32+00:00

No, for the first three days if you are auditing the class you will not get material, If after hearing the instructor in class for three days, It’s a good class and you will like to continue then the hard copy of the book will be mailed out to you and prior to that perhaps you can take screenshots of the instructor screen so that you know what is being covered.

I want to know more about the instructor who will be teaching this class and I have more questions that I wish to discuss. When can I speak with him?2023-10-06T19:56:04+00:00

You are welcome to speak to our instructor, Alok Bhatia, who will be teaching this class, every Wednesday starting at 5 pm Pacific Time, during orientations. A link will be sent to you 15 minutes prior to the start of the orientation. Please do let us know by emailing your salesperson at Sync IT Learning if you will be attending the orientation.

Will I get class recordings?2023-10-06T19:55:47+00:00

Yes, you will get class recordings every day. These recordings will come to you 5 hours after the class. It takes 5 hours for Zoom to convert the recording from native Zoom format to a .mp4 format. This recording link will come to you as an email. You will be able to play the recording but not download it.

Will these class recordings be available forever?2023-10-06T19:55:29+00:00

No. These recordings will expire in 3 months. But, since you can always take the class again, you can get the recordings of the new batch.

Really? Is 10 days of training enough to be a business analyst?2023-10-06T19:53:12+00:00

No training can fully make you a Business Analyst. Think of this training as an ignition to your business analysis career. No, after this training alone, you may not get a BA job. You may have to do other certifications like Scrum Master, Product Owner, Scaled Agile, PMP, etc. Also, most likely you will have to join a training and placement company, to take you under their wings and help you with the resume, counseling, mock interviews, and such. If your thought is that after these 10 days of training, you’ll be able to take up a BA job, most probably you will be disappointed. Once again, this is a course that is a great starter course for being a Business Analyst and a few hiring managers may give you a chance to be a business analyst. But if you’re competing in the open market for a BA job, most probably this training alone will not be enough to get you a job. You must supplement this training, by joining placement companies who will give more training on top of this very strong foundational training.

So, what exactly will I get when I pay for the BAbAB course? What will be the extent of the services? What will be given and what will not be given?2023-10-06T19:52:25+00:00

When you enroll for the BABAB course, you will be given access to prior recordings that will help you cover subject matter of BA. The next day you will be able to interact with the mentor live. To ask questions and clear your doubts. In the recordings, will also be assigned quizzes and homework’s that the instructor will grade live for you for everyone to see. With the BABAB course enrolment you will not get resume counselling, mock interviews, or any placement help. To get these enhanced services, you should join a consulting company that will take you under their wings and give you the whole gamut of services like resume counselling, and mock interviews, submissions to clients, background checks and on the job support.
